Stay safe with QR codes

  • Never scan a QR to receive money. UPI QR codes are only for paying.
  • Check for a sticker pasted over a shop’s QR code before you pay.
  • Read the website name before opening a link. Be careful with short links and http links.

Get a good scan

  • Use good light and hold the phone steady, 10–20 cm away.
  • For photos, crop close to the code. Very small or blurry codes may not read.
  • Glossy codes: tilt the phone a little to remove glare.

Privacy

  • Scanning happens in your browser. Images, PDFs and camera video never leave your device.
  • We do not open any link for you. You decide what to open.
  • Results disappear when you close the page, unless you download them.

Questions about this tool

Can I scan a QR code from a screenshot?

Yes. Paste it with Ctrl+V, or choose the image file. You can also scan QR codes inside PDF files.

Can it read more than one code in a photo?

Yes. It finds several QR codes in one image and lists each one with its position.

Does it read product barcodes?

Yes, EAN-13, EAN-8 and UPC-A barcodes, and it checks the check digit.

Why does it say a UPI QR is “pay only”?

A common scam asks people to scan a QR to “receive” money. Scanning a UPI QR and entering your PIN always sends money. You never need your PIN to receive money.

Is my image uploaded?

No. Everything is processed on your device.
